A brief history of Carousel Confectionery
1955 - A Palmerston North entrepreneur started a backyard
confectionery operation, called Choice Confectionery, creating range of
popular candies.
By 1978, it had grown into full scale factory-based operation
supplying the whole country. It was then sold and briefly renamed Tudor
Confectionery, and then to Carousel Confectionery.
In 1980 it was sold
to Ron Hardie, and is now operated by his son Tony and grandson Mathew. Carousel
Confectionery has gone from strength to strength, to it’s current
nationwide distribution of numerous products.
By 1999, steady growth saw the company move to it’s current modern
production facility, 5 times larger than the original. The ongoing
introduction of new products, sales techniques and outlets continue this
growth.
In 2019, Tony's son Mathew joined the business. Since then Tony & Mathew have worked hard to grow the business to the size it is today, sending out over 1 million kg's of product every year!
2021 - A world class, automated Twist Wrap line was installed in the factory. This allows the business to produce over 1 million kg's of Chews & Caramels annually
Ron, Tony & Mathew attribute this impressive growth to their enthusiasm for
the confectionery industry, and a rigid adherence to quality.
